This song was originally an instrumental written after the death of my brother Luis Herrera (1963-2018). Still, I then realized that my musical brother and best friend Ben "Pure Elevation" Johnson (1967-2017) had to be a part of the song. A month after my brother's death, my other best friend, John DeMaio (1976-2018), had past, and the song had more meaning than I thought for now; it was for the three of them. I was working on other songs, and 2019 came along and then out of nowhere, my best friend of over 35 years Stanley "Stan 153" Pratt (1957-2019). We had throughout the years had worked on projects but never got the chance to complete, not one. We always said to each other we will finish it all and then the world will know. That did not come to happen. I had the pleasure of working with not only as a DJ but as a musical production partner with Sam "The Man" Burns. We always got together to speak politics, music, and what we can do musically together. I had completed three tracks for him that he was looking forward to putting vocals on. The last time I saw him, he was at my home, and we had spoken about the project, and he stated that he would see me the following week so that we could finish it and get out there. Well, Sam "The Man" Burns (1957-2020) past away, which left the whole District of Columbia in shock and tears. I still remember having my drinks of wine with him and just working on music. You are all in my heart and always remembered.
I need more for this track after the death of Sam Burns. In speaking to Diamondancer, I told her of the passion these men had and what I wanted in the lyrics, which was express my feeling of loss for them. What she came up with brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. For it is them in this song.
Diamondancer makes her singing debut on this song, and it is wonderful.
This a beautiful song. I hope that those that hear it feel what I have felt with the loss of someone that you love and cared for.
Thank you, my brothers, for being in my life and in the life of all of those you touched.
